Lost
People “in the know”, who are both familiar with my likes and personality, and who watch television, have said to me
Paul, you would really like Lost. You should watch it.
Now, I typically trust the opinions of these people; one of ’em is a very talented writer and the others usually hit the nail on the head in regards to what I might enjoy. So, I see that Lost is available on the iTunes store. Apple wants $1.99 an episode, for 320x240 DRM’ed video that I’ll only be able to watch on my laptop. Seems like a lot when I can get the DVDs for $42.87 (that’s season 1; season 3 is $35.99) on Amazon. But I digress. I’m in the process of downloading Season 1 of Lost. This isn’t the first time I’ve had these episodes on my computer; about a year ago, before S2 started, I watched the first 3 or 4 episodes. It’s good writing, so far as I remember, and as long as it doesn’t start getting stupid like JJ Abrams’ other show, I think I may stick with it. However, it appears that ABC is again pulling their “starts at 5 minutes after the hour” shit, so I’ll likely never watch it off of TV, instead opting to download it. iTunes generally has the episodes pretty soon after they air, or should I desire, I know there are places that exist in a moral grey area that I could use to acquire the episodes as well.
…Whee, Cafe Press!
So I was having a conversation with one of my employees this morning, and somehow things got a little philosophical:
devlogic: the truth is never a lame excuse. employee: I’m gonna get a bumper sticker that says that devlogic: I should cafe press it and make megabucks employee: HA … devlogic: http://www.cafepress.com/truthnotlame
So there you go. If you want a bumper sticker or rectangular magnet (suitable for putting on a car door, tailgate, or refrigerator), hit up my new Café Press store.
…Hollandaise Sauce
So I made some Hollandaise sauce the other day. Aside from a bit of stiffness in my wrist from all the whisking, it’s not actually that hard. I used the Good Eats recipe (from the episode Hitting the Sauce; try Google or GEFP for the actual details). Having done it the “easy” way, I’m curious as to how difficult it is to make the sauce in the traditional manner, with melted clarified butter instead of chilled knobs of butter. The traditional way is a bit more work (I hate clarifying butter, because it’s such a pain in the ass when I try to get the solids separated out), but I think the texture will probably be a bit less “thick” on the tongue, and both more and less rich at the same time, if that makes sense.
…She said yes!
This morning, after breakfast, I asked Heather to marry me. She said yes, and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t the homemade Hollandaise talking. Well, actually, she said “of course I will”, which I interpreted as “yes”. So everybody keep the first weekend or two of October 2007 open (we’re shooting for the 6th, but who knows with catering halls), because there’s sure to be a fun event around then involving a nice ceremony and some tasty vittles. Heather says there’s going to be at least one pretty dress as well.
…Blogging from within SecondLife, second try
I’ll keep this short in case I start chatting random stuff to people who happen to be walking by (wish I knew a way to do this silently).
I’ve decided to start blogging from inside SL, at least for a little while (i.e., until I get bored with it). So look for posts from “slstats” that will be from in-game, complete with SL addresses if you want to see for yourself.
…bizarre.
Somehow, and I honestly have no idea how, the style file for this site (which k2 reads) was converted from LF (Unix-style) to CR (Classic Mac-style) encoding. Since I’ve never edited any of those files on a “Classic” mac (i.e., one running pre-OS X system software), I have no idea how that happened. In any case, a quick re-save in TextMate later, and everything’s pretty again.
I just wish the K2 guys would quit switching repository providers; I always forget what the SVN command for changing that is, and end up just checking everything out again from scratch and moving things around into the right places.
…If you get this, you're a geek
Holy crap, that’s funny. I’m obviously a really big geek. If you don’t get it, um, tough.

…Test of CricketMoods
I installed a plugin that gives me those silly “Current Mood:” lines on posts. So I’m testing it out. I’ll probably try it for a couple days and decide that this isn’t livejournal, and turn it back off…
…Hi, Sarah!
Happy Birthday, Linux!
Heh. Linus Torvalds had no idea what he was getting into 15 years ago…
