She said yes!

This morning, after breakfast, I asked Heather to marry me. She said yes, and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t the homemade Hollandaise talking. Well, actually, she said “of course I will”, which I interpreted as “yes”. So everybody keep the first weekend or two of October 2007 open (we’re shooting for the 6th, but who knows with catering halls), because there’s sure to be a fun event around then involving a nice ceremony and some tasty vittles. Heather says there’s going to be at least one pretty dress as well. ...

Blogging from within SecondLife, second try

I’ll keep this short in case I start chatting random stuff to people who happen to be walking by (wish I knew a way to do this silently). I’ve decided to start blogging from inside SL, at least for a little while (i.e., until I get bored with it). So look for posts from “slstats” that will be from in-game, complete with SL addresses if you want to see for yourself. ...

bizarre.

Somehow, and I honestly have no idea how, the style file for this site (which k2 reads) was converted from LF (Unix-style) to CR (Classic Mac-style) encoding. Since I’ve never edited any of those files on a “Classic” mac (i.e., one running pre-OS X system software), I have no idea how that happened. In any case, a quick re-save in TextMate later, and everything’s pretty again. I just wish the K2 guys would quit switching repository providers; I always forget what the SVN command for changing that is, and end up just checking everything out again from scratch and moving things around into the right places. ...

If you get this, you're a geek

Holy crap, that’s funny. I’m obviously a really big geek. If you don’t get it, um, tough. (From Pharyngula) If you get this, you’re a geek:

Long night at work

Sweet zombie Jesus, tonight is going slowly. It feels like I’ve been in this office for a week, but it’s only been about 5 hours. I don’t understand it; it’s not as if I have any more (or less) work to do this morning. I did a couple call observations, sent some email, went through about 250 new articles that showed up in NetNewsWire, updated my address book, and watched 10 or 12 movie trailers. Heck, I even already had lunch. I guess it’s just one of those things; it’s been a long time since I had a night at work that was this slow, so I’m about due. ...

Skinnier and Skinnier

I bought a new pair of jeans yesterday. Not too bad; less than 15 bucks, and on tax-free weekend as well, which is a nice bonus. This sort of thing isn’t really that notable, until I point out the fact that for the last 11 years, I’ve been buying progressively larger-sized jeans. This pair is the first one in a very long time that has had a smaller waist size than the ones I wore to the store. ...

Yay, weight watchers!

So as of a few days ago, I’m at 262 pounds (like the image in the sidebar? I’ll be updating that whenever I remember, probably once a week). That means that since I started this diet, I’ve lost 13 pounds. I’m more happy about this than you’d think. Granted, I still have a long way to go, but seeing results of any kind is better than what I had before (i.e., eat as much of whatever I want, and stay fat). It’s also nice that these results are VERY good. My loss curve will probably shallow out in a few weeks, once my body gets used to losing weight, but I am currently filled with a personal sense of accomplishment, and fully believe that I can make my planned targets and my eventual goal weight. ...

Never Trust a Skinny Chef...: Ups and Downs

Never Trust a Skinny Chef…: Ups and Downs: It’s an old post off of a food blog that I enjoy reading, but it gives me hope. I know everyone I talk to about losing weight says “I’m sure you can do it,” but I’ve had my doubts. But seeing someone who actually did exactly what I plan to do really does boot my hope reserves. For the record, this guy went from 280 to 179. Granted, it took him twice as long as I have initially planned to devote to this exercise, but since I have similar goals (I weighed in at 273 on Monday morning this week, and I hope to be at 180 by late 2008). Let’s just hope that I don’t spend a year and a half hovering at 220 like Mr. Conway in the link… ...

50 tanks later

I just realized that I’m on my 50th tank of gas in my truck. 13,800 miles, 768 gallons, and $1777 later, I have some statistics: average MPG: 17.6 average cost per mile: 13¢ average miles per day: 26.1 average cost per day (only for gas): $3.43 Interesting, eh?
