Ethernet
If you ever forget what the spec is for crimping ethernet cables (cat-5 or cat-5e), this page has the pinouts. Another page on that same site tells how to do 25-pair phone and audio wires, too.
…New project!
The worst part of any programming project, I’m convinced, is the beginning. I’ve put a small number of hours (less than 10) into this project, but even with that small amount of efford, I can’t really see any results yet, because everything is backend (database design, basic functions that work, but with only stub programs running them).
But when I finish, boy is this site going to be functional. It’s really a shame I just can’t do “pretty” to save my life. Oh, well. Maybe someone will like what they see, and offer to pretty it up for me.
…Work
I finally remembered to bring my GPS receiver to work. Work is 30.21411N, 97.71282W at 588’ elevation. Who knew?
…Heh
If anyone is wondering what I’d like for Christmas, here’s a suggestion. The barrel is even economical when you divide it out.
…Zelda
If you’ve ever wondered how the various Zelda games fit together (I mean, there are what, 2 NES, 1 SNES, 3 GB/GBC/GBA, 2 N64 and a GCN game), try this site. the guy does a good a job as anyone tying all of the various plot elements into a cohesive timeline (although I agree that the Capcom joint-venture Oracle games [Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons] for the GBC really don’t fit in anywhere).
…Bittorrent
Update: 2004-02-16: For those of you who are too stupid to type the URL into the “Address” field of your browser instead of into the Google search form, please note the following: (a) There are no torrents available to download from this site. (b) If you really want to figure out where Hawkie’s has gone to, look at the damn source to their “old” home page. We now return you to the previous entry:
…Lovecraft
Memo to myself: visit the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society more often. Particularly, before Christmas.
Addendum: buy “A Very Scary Solstice” on CD, and listen to it constantly during the holiday season, just to freak people out.
…Happy Birthday to Me!
Well, it’s my birthday today. There’s not really that much to say about it; I’m at work, and I really wish I’d brought the Gamecube that I bought myself as an early present on Saturday.
Events like birthdays, at least in my mind, are a time for personal reflection. But what to reflect upon? I’m finally losing weight, and once I get past the holidays I’m well on my way to my target weight. I’ll probably even start working out after the new year (although I may get my membership in December to beat out all the price gouging that I imagine happens after everyone makes their New Year’s resolutions). My finances are looking up for the first time since I got a credit card (back in 1995, finally paid off 3 years ago), and I may even get a savings account soon. My career is kind of on a back burner, but that’s not unexpected considering the fact that EVERYONE in my line of work is experiencing career setbacks due to the dot.com bust.
…Yeah, what he said.
This article, which I found linked from dotclue, expresses wonderfully my opinion on firearm ownership. Well, the first half at least; I also agree wholeheartedly with the other half, although I don’t own any firearms myself.
This isn’t really open for discussion, but it IS how I feel on the subject.
…Yeats
Some day, I’ll want to read The Second Coming by W.B. Yeats again. And I won’t have to wish I’d bookmarked it, because here it is.
