Compiling Evidence
I’m sure there’s a better solution, but since my compiles of the CVS version of Evidence kept failing, here’s the solution I used:
First, keep in mind that I’ve installed all of my e17 binaries, libs, includes, etc. in /opt/e17. If you have put your e17 binaries in a different location, you’ll need to modify these directions. But if you’re compiling the CVS version of Evidence (or anything else, for that matter), you should already know that.
…Personal musings: Enlightenment DR17
I won’t bother with a full review of my own; there are a couple ( 1, 2) that I’ve already read online that already say most of what I would have anyway. So this is just the things that I’ve noticed with my own installation.
Anyway, the important links first:
Now, on with the show. I’ll obviously be modifying this post with cool screenshots of my own system once I get home (I’m at work right now), but for now I’ll start with a timeline of my Enlightenment experience.
…Tired
I’ve been really tired recently.
No, wait. “Tired” isn’t quite the right word. Granted, if I take out my contacts, go horizontal and close my eyes, I’ll sleep. But “tired” doesn’t really cover it.
Neither does “exhausted”; in my mind, at least, exhaustion requires some sort of effort, be it physical, mental, or temporal (sleep-dep the usual cause in my particular case). So I’m not exhausted, either.
I think the word I’m looking for is weary. Yeah, that’s close enough. I’m weary. I’m not sure exactly what I’m weary of (since the weary function requires an argument). “Weary of life” sounds too . . . hm. “Contrived” doesn’t really work. Ah, I’ve got it. “Weary of life” sounds too Emo. “Weary of existence” even moreso; I’d have to lose about 150 pounds and start wearing all black to use that phrase in a serious context.
…Hm... I should try that.
Homemade Ginger Ale Sounds easy enough, and the recipe was “cooked up” (pun intended) by a biology/chemistry professor at UC Clermont. I’ll buy a 2-liter of something and the other ingredients some time this week; should be done by the weekend.
…Thirty-Twelve?
I was bored waiting for these stupid de-archives and par2repairs to finish, and spent my waiting-time reading through the QC archives. And I came to the realization, almost as if in a wave of inspiration, that thirty-twelve is the most awesome number ever. It’s even better than eleventeen.
…Bittorrent?
I like the concept of bittorrent. It’s awesome. Widespread peer-to-peer bandwidth sharing, to cut down on the cost of bandwidth for the original content provider. But here’s my thing: it’s broken.
Case in point:
That’s not right. If I’m nice enough to donate that much upload bandwidth to “the swarm,” I’d like to get at least half of that speed back in download, just as fair recompense.
Bored Beyond Belief
I feel kinda like Steve Martin in the middle of LA Story, only I don’t even have rain to watch. I’m not even asking for a laugh-riot whirlwind of action, I just want something to do besides write about how bored I am. Maybe I should brush up on my Spanish or Italian, or learn German, Russian, or Japanese so I can start reading weblogs from the other 2/3 of the world.

ThinkGeek :: Polarity - Magnetic Boardgame:
This sure does look like fun. I wonder if there’d be enough continued interest in this game, in my personal social circle, to justify the $25 price tag.
…Forum software
I decided to try out this new forum software I saw on friday morning at work; it’s called “vanilla”, and it seems to be fairly well-featured (despite its name). The install literally took 5 minutes, including extracting the zip file (only 320 kb). I doubt this one will get much exposure, but it’s there nonetheless for any and all to peruse. new members should immediately have posting privileges, but HTML is restricted to people whose accounts I activate (i.e., people I know). Anyway, a link: Vanilla at devlogic.org. Do with it what you will; I’ll check it eventually to see if it’s actually getting any hits.
…Who is R.A.B.?
Wow. I just hope it doesn’t take two years for book 7 to come out.
Edit: OK, I don’t hope it takes less than two years to come out. I hope it takes as long as it takes for book 7 to come out. I just wish I had a time machine.
