Link Roundup

no pun intended on the first one… Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Lava Boss Video: Holy crap, I’m so getting a Wii when it comes out. Zelda is a launch title, too… The Robservatory » It’s so … black!: Another good review of the new Apple MacBook… I think I may fall prey to the color tax when I get mine as well… Benefits of Removing ‘www’ From Your URL » Wisdump: Hmmm… Tempting. I think I already have some of these rules in place, but it’d certainly make life a lot easier to go “whole hog”. Daring Fireball: Using .htaccess Redirection to Standardize Web Server Addresses: More of the same Main Page - Discworld & Pratchett Wiki: I needed this a few minutes ago, to look up the Discworld books that I don’t already own. Turns out there’s not a lot of ’em. ...

Dead CD-ROM drive, redux

Well, I got paid today, so welovemacs.com got 200 bucks, and I’ll get a new superdrive some time this week. So hopefully by next weekend, I’ll once again have a working CD/DVD drive in my iBook. Luckily, this new drive is a SuperDrive, not a Combo Drive. So I get a DVD burner in with the mix. Which is nice; 6x as much space on a single disc, and my copy of DVD Studio Pro will be useful for something besides making ISO images. ...

Apple - MacBook Family

Apple - MacBook Family: Drool. Now I just need to find a couple thousand dollars somewhere, so that I can acquire one of these.

Survey answers

Thanks, Ryan. I spent like 10 minutes filling this thing out. But at least it took up 10 minutes of my day that would otherwise have been filled with me thinking “why isn’t it 8:00 yet?”

I hate chat-speak

Maybe I should just start replying to every poorly-written aim message I receive with these three addresses.

Dead CD-ROM drive

Well, it finally happened. After failing to burn discs a few weeks ago, it appears the cd-rom drive in my iBook has finally given up the ghost. With the CD for my new cell phone stuck in the drive, and no manual eject button. Meh, it’s supposedly just windows-only software anyway, but it’s still irritating that the drive has failed. I did find somewhere online that’ll sell me a SuperDrive (apple branded and everything) for just under $200, or a replacement Combo Drive for $110 (plus shipping, I’m sure). But it’s just irritating to have to open the thing up (again), pull the old drive, and install a new one. Mainly because there’s like 3 zillion tiny screws involved. I’m tempted to open it up and just reseat the IDE cable, to see if that gives me a little more life out of the drive (anything is better than completely dead), but again, it’s a huge pain in the ass to disassemble the case. Oh, how I long for those long-lost days of desktop computers, with their simple thumbscrews (or even no screws). ...

Thy Dungeon man 3!

stupid witch. The scrapbook clearly shows 4 kids. But 4 isn’t the answer. Neither is 3, 2, or 1, apparently. I guess I just need to sit here and wait for hrwiki.org to update. Update: Looks like a glitch or something. I restarted the game, and this time it worked perfectly. Technology. Gotta love it.

Gas book, whee!

So I keep track of every tank of gas I buy. My parents did it for their cars when I was growing up. And while I neglected to do so for my first two cars, I decided that since I bought my current vehicle with only 30 miles on the odometer, I should start the habit. The statistics I’m seeing are a bit interesting: In the last 445 days, I’ve driven 11,000 miles (or so), put 636 gallons of gas into the tank, and spend a little over $1400 (US). That’s a hell of a lot of money, at an average of $0.13/mile. ...

Myspace profile customization

Whee, that was fun. Mike Davidson posted a nice little guide on customizing myspace profiles, which I adapted a bit to my own needs. It still needs a lot of work (for example, a better color scheme than my grey-on-grey with red accents), but it’s a lot better than the default myspace profile look. Update 2009-05-09: I’m tired of people getting this post through Google searches and thinking it’s about compromising Myspace, so I’ve changed the post title and the wording of one of the links on this page. ...

Titles and subject lines are the bane of my existence

OK, that was silly. But anyway… I suppose some updates are in order, since it’s been a long time since my last “real” update. I know a few people are subscribed to my RSS feed, but in all likelihood, only about 5 people will read this entry anyway. Well, aside from the Googlebot. Hi, Googlebot! But what to update about? Everyone who reads this already knows that I’ve been going out with Heather for the last month, and I’m not going to say anything more about that for fear of jinxing it. My job isn’t particularly interesting these days, so there’s nothing new to report there, either. Nobody’s managed to piss me off, so there’s no real material to base a rant on. I did install a new hard drive and bluetooth module in my laptop, but that’s not really anything newsworthy. ...
