So I found a new thing called “IMified” this morning. It seems like a neat concept; do things via IM. For example, I’m posting this entry via AIM right now. There are a lot of “widgets” in their library that you can use for things like todo items, or reminders, or (obviously) posting blog entries on a wordpress-style blog. OK, I just started watching Heroes (I know, I’m about 4 months late in the game), and holy crap is it awesome. It’s like no other TV series I’ve seen before. It’s got interesting characters, and a great plot. At least, so far as I can tell; it’s a bit like a JJ Abrams series so far with a different plot twist for every character. netatalk is not linked to OpenSSL in Debian by default, because of some licensing snit. I don’t like this, because it forces cleartext passwords (and that’s hardly secure). The solution: apt-get source netatalk sudo apt-get build-dep netatalk sudo apt-get install cracklib2-dev libssl-dev cd netatalk-2.0.3 DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=ssl debuild sudo dpkg -i ../netatalk-*.deb
So long story short, too many conflicts in our personal lives existed last week for Heather and me to actually have a Valentine’s dinner on Valentine’s day. So we did it on Saturday instead! Everything went off perfectly, except I might have over-estimated the amount of time certain dishes took to cook. Anyway, there aren’t any pictures because I don’t have a digital camera that’s worth a hill of beans, but here’s the menu; recipes are available upon request, but aren’t printed here because I just stole ’em all off of various web sites. ...
OK. So my iBook had issues that needed to be fixed by Apple. Bad logic board, essentially. So I call and get the box dispatched, and DHL picks it up on Monday afternoon, at 4:30 (I know because the knocks on the door woke me up). It’s now 6:15 in the morning on Wednesday, and it’s already in FedEx’s sorting facility here in Austin (on its way back to me, you see). ...
Yeah, so I might just be insane. But the concept of wearing a cloak just appeals to me for some reason. Trouble is, it’s tough to find the right fabric when you don’t really know what you’re doing. I’ve been looking around online for the last few hours, and I’ve found prices that made me wince ($32.50 per yard for wool) and lots and lots of quilting “fat quarters” (which are virtually useless for making full-size garments). I’ve found sites that recommend looking for coating remnants, sites that recommend wool, wool/polyester blends, heavy cotton, wool/acryllic blends, fleece, not fleece, you get the picture. ...
Wow, another year already? It seems like only last week that it was the end of 2005. So much has happened in my life this year, I don’t really know where to begin. I’m thankful for all of the happiness that I’ve received over the last 12 months, and I’m glad that I have experienced everything that’s happened, good and bad alike. I was going to post one of those stupid internet meme things, but I decided against it. This isn’t a livejournal, and nobody really cares anyway. It might be different if I had an audience at all (and I know I don’t, because I can read apache access logs as well as anyone else). Ah, home again. I’ve actually been back in Austin since Monday evening, but I took a bit of a sabbatical from the Internet for a few extra days. So. A holiday recap is in order, I suppose.
