Colophon

I don’t really know if I’m doing this “correctly” (according to whatever rules govern the content and/or formatting of a colophon), but I figured this will be a good substitute for my current contact page, which is hard to use and lacking in anything beyond basic data.

Some disclaimers: I am by no means a graphic designer or professional writer. I make no claims to know what I’m doing here, and no-one should really follow my advice without fully understanding what anything I say actually does and/or means. While I may complain about my work or professional life from time to time, this site has no connection to the business I work for. There is not a single bit of data here that should be construed as being endorsed by, implied by, or in any way connected to my employer. Not that I’d ever say anything like that, but given the attitude of litigators these days things of this nature must be said.

About the author

Paul Leonard was born a while ago (thirty-something years at last count) in Arlington, Texas, and put up with it for a little over eighteen years before moving to Austin, Texas (purportedly to go to college). He lives with his beautiful wife in a semi-decent apartment in the southeast of the city, and usually enjoys his job as network administrator of a call center that (among other things) provides technical support for ISPs across the US. If anyone should want to contact him, his email address is hopefully not all over the place (because, like everyone else, he hates getting junk email) but is available nonetheless in places like whois records (or “firstname@thisdomain.org”). He also tends to mix verb tenses and persons when writing web pages.

Code and Typography

Everything is written in XHTML because it’s easy for WordPress to generate the code that way. I could probably make up a nice reason that sounds good, but I felt it necessary to be honest. I had previously gone to the trouble of using hand-made CSS for the layout of the page, but switched to K2 long ago, and just recently decided to start experiment with different themes again. Current theme information should be in the page footer below, for those curious enough to look for it.

Production

This site has been produced from many different platforms, including OS X 10.3, 10.4, and 10.5 (Panther, Tiger, and Leopard, for those who use the names), Windows 2000 and Windows XP (but not Vista, because I don’t have it on any computer to which I have regular access), so many flavors of Linux I’ve lost count (although primarily Debian). I’ve posted entries using Firefox, Camino, Safari, and Internet Explorer, although I prefer using ecto the most (I actually paid for it, it was so good). The pages are rendered by WordPress. I generally have the newest version of WordPress, although sometimes I do miss the release notices for a few weeks. What few images there are on the site used to be created in Photoshop, but I scored a copy of Pixelmator a while back, and use that instead.
Hosting: I got a good deal on hosting from DreamHost.  You can too; just use Referral code DEVLOGIC123 for $25 off a 1-year subscription!

Copyright

All content, except where otherwise specified or noted, is © 2000 — 2009+ Paul Leonard (that’s me), and I reserve unto myself all rights available under the law. Feel free to link to any content you wish to reference (it’s what the web was designed for), but please leave it on my server. Any comments you may post (when I actually turn on comments, which is rare) retain whatever copyright you choose to give them.

Privacy Policy

I will not sell, loan, lease, or in any way accept or be given compensation for anyone’s personal information provided on this site, including (but not limited to) email addresses, IP addresses, or browser statistics. I also won’t give personally-identifiable information away for free (unless I’m compelled to do so for legal reasons). If I’ve configured the site correctly, your email address won’t be anywhere on the site unless you put it in the text of your comment. I reserve the right to delete any comments I don’t like, or modify long URLs to fit in with the site layout, but aside from that outright deletion I will never edit the content of any comments on the site unless I am requested to do so by the poster. My own content, however, is fair game for my capricious edits whenever I feel like it.
